Uncontested Divorce

Family Property & Debt Division
In BC, the Family Law Act governs the division of property and debt upon separation or divorce. These rules apply to both married couples and unmarried couples living together for 2 or more years.
Generally, property and debt are equally divided – unless the couple has made alternate legal arrangements.
The application to divide property must be made within 2 years of divorce (for married couples) or your separation date (for common-law couples).
